Islamabad: A 50-member parliament for children has started functioning in Tharparkar District of Sindh with an objective to promote peace, raise awareness among local people about tolerance and inter-faith harmony. It is also designed to resolve issues of backwardness, illiteracy in women and highlight the lack of basic facilities in the area. Initially, 250 students (aged 14-16 years) of 13 government schools from three union councils of District Tharparkar— Mithi, Diplo, Chelhar and Malnhore Vena—filled their forms to be nominated for the children assembly membership, however 50 were shortlisted.
