Champions League : Real Madrid 3 Napoli 2

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

Real Madrid at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Tuesday in what may be the most interesting game of this week's Matchday 2 in the UEFA Champions League's group stage. The Azzurri won their opening game away against Braga, while Jude Bellingham's late goal decided Real's first match against Union Berlin.

Piotr Zieliński converted it, denying Bellingham what would've been a worthy game winner.

But a late Meret own goal — following a blistering shot by Federico Valverde that ricocheted off the crossbar, hit the keeper and went in — meant Real was still able to take all three points back to the Spanish capital from a match that more than lived up to the billing.

the home side were handed a route back into the match after the restart, as Piotr Zielinksi calmly slotted home from the penalty spot.

The game continued to ebb and flow in the closing stages before Fede Valverde's spectacular hit ricocheted off Napoli keeper Alex Meret and in to clinch three points for Los Blancos on a breathless night at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Nacho Fernandez but, following a video assistant referee check, the French official was told to take another look on the pitch side monitor and he overturned his decision.

Real grabbed the winner with just over 10 minutes left when Federico Valverde's thunderbolt of a shot cannoned off the crossbar and went in via the back of goalkeeper Alex Meret.

The victory puts Carlo Ancelotti's side at the top of Group C with six points from their opening two games, having beaten Union Berlin 1-0 in their first outing.

Napoli - who had gone 14 games unbeaten at home in the Champions League - are second and only clear of third-placed Braga on head-to-head after beating the Portuguese side 2-1 last month. Braga came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Union Berlin earlier on Tuesday.

Real Madrid was so opposed to the extra media access that it filed a legal complaint ultimately thrown out by a judge.

In September, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Real Madrid executives, sparking speculation that the club could be interested in striking a deal with the tech giant, which is getting more involved in sports media deals.
