When an individual cell is traumatized by radiation, chemicals, or stress, it grows abnormally, out of harmony. Growing for itself, at the expense of the larger whole, it can eventually kill the host. This is defined as cancer. Similarly, a healthy society supplies members with both a meaningful way to contribute as well as providing support and opportunity for the essentials of life.
