Every year on the anniversary of 9/11, I attend the memorial ceremony held at the World Trade Center. I stand in my FDNY uniform among other firefighters as a fire bell rings five times, marking the four commercial airlines used as missiles and the collapse of North and South towers. As the bells echo across the memorial plaza, I recall what I was doing that fateful day.
