Shortly after midnight on May 18, 58-year-old Brooklyn teacher Matthew Jensen was crossing McGuinness Blvd., in Greenpoint, when he was killed by a hit-and-run driver. A beloved fixture at the nearby elementary school where he worked, Jensen was struck at an intersection close to his home and, as it happens, mine. He was returning home from his own birthday celebration at the time.
