June 5 is always a mournful day in Hell’s Kitchen. It’s Long-Term Survivor (LTS) Awareness Day, which honors the resilience of those who lived through, and still live with, the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The day is meant to raise awareness of LTS’ needs, issues and often perilous journeys. It’s a day to shed tears for those we loved and lost, and a day filled with survivor’s guilt: Why did I survive when most of my friends died way too young?
