The Scorchers will host the Big Bash League season opener for the second successive season. With the Ashes series concluding in early January, several Australian Test players, including Steve Smith and Travis Head, are likely to be available for their respective BBL teams during the latter part.
Sydney Thunder are set to face Hobart Hurricanes on December 16 in a rematch of last season’s final. The playoffs will follow the traditional four-match structure, beginning with the Qualifier on January 20 and concluding with the Final on Sunday, January 25.
With no international fixtures scheduled for Australia between the New Year’s Ashes Test and the T20 World Cup in February, marquee players like Pat Cummins and Steve Smith are expected to be available for the latter stages of the BBL, subject to fitness and workload.

BBL Chief Alastair Dobson Describes 2025 Season as One They’ve “Been Waiting a Long Time For”
"Obviously anything we do around an Ashes summer is huge but to then have a good clear run of nights available from mid-December to the end of January where we can play the BBL every night is one that adds up to a pretty strong season for us," said Dobson.
