DENVER (KDVR) — A couple who were driving east on Interstate 70 on Wednesday afternoon are still shaken up from witnessing and trying to help after a deadly crash near Limon.
The couple was first on scene, even before first responders could make it to the scene, and stopped to help the driver of the SUV. Speaking with FOX31's Talya Cunningham, John Andazola said that on Wednesday, he was headed to Arkansas with his girlfriend when they saw a Subaru Forester clip the back end of a semitrailer and flip over.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Debris was scattered over the highway, causing Andazola to stop the car. The couple went to help with the crash and saw a male driver emerge, along with a dog.
The driver was conscious, Andazola said, but "pretty banged up," and disoriented. He started pleading with the couple to help his family get out of the vehicle. Andazola said they tried to help, but knew that the rest of the family had not survived.
Andazola said that while speaking with the driver, he learned that the driver was headed to Arkansas for his mother's funeral.
"I feel bad for the gentleman, you know, he lost his family, as we pulled up to the car, instantly I noticed that they — well, they didn't survive it," Andazola said. "The top of the vehicle was sheared off, and it was upside down. He couldn't comprehend, you know, clearly there was trauma to him as well, and we ended up pulling him to the side so he didn't have to see his family members."
Andazola said that paramedics took the driver to a hospital, and at that time, he was still unaware of his family's condition. The driver's injuries are unknown.
The couple told FOX31 that the children were a young girl and a boy, both buckled up in the back seat of the SUV. They also said they're going to hug their own children a little tighter tonight.
