Five San Diego parks will light up the night with free, family-friendly fun, food, films and more until August through the city’s popular Parks After Dark program.

The San Diego Parks Foundation’s Parks After Dark series is returning for its fourth year and promises a fun-filled summer, complete with movie nights under the stars, live music, free food for kids, sports, and arts and crafts.

Families looking for free fun this summer can flock to a handful of parks throughout San Diego County nearly every Thursday, Friday and Saturday through early August for evening events. The festivities take place nearly every week from 5-8 p.m. through Aug. 9 at these city parks:

“Parks After Dark provides a space for everyone to come together in the summertime and play outside,” said Andy Field, director of the San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation. “We invite your family to join us!”

This year’s summer series kicked off on June 14, and hundreds of families and kids have already flocked to their neighborhood parks every week for the fun.

The city is bringing the popular program back this summer in an effort to make neighborhoods with high crime rates safer and serve the families who live in them.

Since Parks After Dark first kicked off in 2022, the city said the events have driven down crime in areas where the fun is held, while also allowing families to come together, celebrate and access free resources. Even pets are typically allowed in on the festivities, as long as they’re on a leash.

No Parks After Dark events will be taking place this week due to Independence Day, but they will return next week on July 10.
