The 76-year-old Martinez hasn’t worked in his usual Sportsnet duties in over a month.

The former MLB catcher and manager missed most of June, was prescheduled to help lessen his workload, per the Toronto Sun.

However, the report added that Monday’s absence wasn’t over giving him rest.

During the Blue Jays’ game against the New York Yankees on Monday, Sportsnet shared a written statement from Martinez, who opened up about his extended absence from the booth, saying it’s out of precaution.

He also said that Monday’s absence was due to a “little health setback” but that he hopes to be back and working soon.

“Hey Blue Jays fans, I was planning to be back in the booth tonight after some scheduled time off, but I recently had a little health setback,” Martinez’s statement read.

“While I’m feeling pretty good, I’m going to take some extra trime off out of an abundance of caution.

“I hope to see you at the ballpark soon.

“As always, thanks for your love and support.”

Still, Blue Jays and MLB fans expressed their concern about Martinez’s health and wished the veteran broadcaster all the best.

“Best wishes to Buck, feel better soon,” one wrote.

“Missing you badly Mr Buck Martinez….please get well soon,” another commented.

“Wish Buck all the best! Health is most important and we’ll see you soon,” a third said.

Blue Jays play-by-play man Dan Schulman read Martinez’s statement during Monday’s broadcast and then sent a message to his longtime booth partner.

“I want everybody out there to know that Buck really feels the love from everybody in Blue Jays nation,” Shulman said.

“He could not be more appreciative and Buck, we are all thinking of you.

“We know you’re watching every single pitch.

“To everybody, thank you for your concern, and we can’t wait to have Buck back in the booth with us again soon.”

Martinez has been part of the Blue Jays organization for close to 40 years as a player, manager, and broadcaster.

In 2022, Martinez missed more than three months after being diagnosed with cancer but was able to return later that season after getting treatment.
