The Director-General was accused of double standards after it emerged that he was visiting staff at the festival when the punk duo’s set was live-streamed but executives did not pull the plug.
BBC sources said Davie intervened to make sure the performance was not available for playback on the iPlayer, however it remained online for more than five hours.
Furious staff called on Davie to quit, pointing to the BBC’s swift move to relieve Gary Lineker of his presenting duties, after the Match of the Day presenter shared a post about Zionism featuring a rat, seen as an antisemitic trope.

One staffer said: “Tim Davie axed Gary Lineker for accidentally sharing an antisemitic tweet. What’s the penalty for live-streaming an antisemitic rant to the whole nation? It’s double standards if Davie doesn’t ‘step back’ too.”
Jewish staffers were in despair over the Vylan affair, which followed the withdrawal from iPlayer of a Gaza documentary over the participants’ Hamas link and claims of anti-Israel bias among BBC Arabic journalists.
They accused Davie of “incompetency” and allowing antisemitism to grow within the BBC.
They added that Davie “should resign or be sacked over the irreparable damage he has inflicted on the BBC and for the ammunition he has provided for people who don’t like Jews.”
“He’s paid half a million pounds to make the big calls and this was a catastrophic failure.”

“I expect answers to these questions without delay,” she said, adding that there is “a problem of leadership” at the BBC.
“The running order for each band is gone over so there can be no surprises. There has to be a person monitoring the performance with the authority to mute the sound or cut away if things go off the rails. It doesn’t look like the essential due diligence has been done here.”
The BBC News website reported that the corporation employs an “entire team of bleeping bandits”, who “sit in a cramped office at Glastonbury, carefully editing out curse words.”
They later clarified: “No riots, just love and support, and support for Palestine.”
What Bob Vylan have said
The band said: “We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine.
The Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis condemned the BBC’s broadcasting the band’s chants as a “national shame”.
A BBC spokesman said: “The Director-General was informed of the (Vylan) incident after the performance and at that point he was clear it should not feature in any other Glastonbury coverage.”
The BBC said the “antisemitic sentiments expressed by Bob Vylan were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves” and said it will “look at our guidance around live events so we can be sure teams are clear on when it is acceptable to keep output on air.”
The BBC declined to comment on the criticisms made by staffers of Davie.
