HBO Max is a little light on new show releases in July 2025, but some of our favorite series will be releasing new episodes throughout the month.
If you’re a crime or period drama fan, you should definitely be keeping up with Duster.
Meanwhile, romantic comedy lovers are watching — or in some cases, hate-watching — And Just Like That.
But if you’re in the mood to revisit a classic (or watch it for the first time), Watch With Us is recommending one HBO series that’s about to become super relevant again in July.
‘Duster’ (2025-Present)
Josh Holloway (Lost) and Rachel Hilson (The Good Wife, Love, Victor) star in this explosive 1970s period piece about Nina Hayes, a Black female FBI agent, and her quest to bring down crime kingpin Ezra Saxton (Keith David). Hayes teams up with Saxton’s driver, Jim Ellis (Holloway), whose beloved Plymouth Duster gives the show its name and becomes a character unto itself.
19 Must-Watch Shows on HBO Max Right Now (June 2025)
Lost creator J.J. Abrams created Duster with Into the Badlands writer LaToya Morgan. As Ellis, Holloway is just as captivating as when he played Sawyer on that now legendary ABC mystery series. His chemistry with Hilson is engaging and propulsive, and the combination of great writing and action with a groovy ‘70s look makes Duster irresistible. The season 1 finale airs July 3.
‘And Just Like That’ (2021-Present)
If light and breezy is your thing, And Just Like That might be the perfect show for you. The sequel series to Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, respectively. Nothing can ever truly make up for the loss of Kim Cattrall’s Samantha, but And Just Like That does its best to capture the fun, fluffy tone of the original series as well as the over-the-top fashion choices.
16 Must-Watch Netflix Sitcoms to Stream Right Now (June 2025)
Some viewers of the show are more like hate-watchers than actual fans, but we still can’t resist tuning in every week. Even if you don’t like the show, it’s pretty darn fun to text your friends and say “Miranda would never have done that in the original series!” each week. The season 3 finale airs July 31.
‘Girls’ (2012-2017)
Somewhere between Duster and And Just Like That lies Girls, which is a bit more substantive in its social commentary than AJLT while remaining firmly in the comedy genre. We’re recommending Girls for July because the series creator and star, Lena Dunham, has a new romantic comedy series coming to Netflix on July 10 called Too Much.
14 Must-See Comedy Shows to Stream Right Now (May 2025)
If you’re psyched to see Dunham’s new work, now is the perfect time to refresh your memory about what made Girls so great. (Clever writing, bold storytelling and great casting are a few of the show’s attributes.) Time will tell if Too Much will live up to its predecessor, but the NYC adventures of Hannah (Dunham), Marnie (Allison Williams), Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Shoshana (Zosia Mamet) are totally timeless.
