Bhubaneswar: The flood situation in northern Odisha is worsening as the Subarnarekha River crossed the danger mark, submerging several villages in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts.

In Balasore, the Subarnarekha hit 10.83 meters at Rajghat, above the 10.36-meter danger level, flooding Bhograi block’s 15 panchayats. Roads and fields are submerged, affecting 46 gram panchayats across Basta, Jaleswar, Baliapal, Bhograi, Remuna, and Soro blocks. Jaleswar’s urban wards face waterlogging. The Jalaka River at Mathani is near its 6.59-meter danger mark, flooding ten villages. Over 2,900 people have been evacuated, as per reports.

In neighbouring Mayurbhanj district, rising water levels in rivers like Budhabalanga and Deo have submerged over 100 villages across several blocks. More than 300 kutcha houses have been damaged, and Baripada town is reeling under severe inundation.

In Sundargarh district, Koida has been completely cut off after the Soyamba bridge went under water. The Brahmani River is also rising and poses a threat to nearby villages if heavy rains persist, reports added.
