San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister is reminding property owners that Monday is the final day to pay delinquent property taxes before incurring penalties.
After Monday, unpaid bills go into default and receive additional penalties of 1.5% each month.
“Tomorrow, July 1, unpaid bills will go into default and receive an additional $33 redemption fee plus penalties of 1.5% each month,” McAllister said.
“That penalty adds up to a hefty 18% per year but is avoidable if payments are received by the deadline. Taxpayers can quickly and easily pay their bills online at sdttc.com at no additional cost if payment is made using the free e-Check option.”
Property taxes are due in two installments: one in December and the second in April. Each late installment has already incurred a 10% penalty, plus a $10 fee if the second installment is late, McAllister said.
Taxpayers can pay by:
Going online to sdttc.com to pay before midnight, July 1; Mailing a postmarked payment before/on July 1; Calling the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office at (855) 829-3773; or Going in person to one of the three branch offices in Chula Vista, Santee, and San Marcos before 5 p.m., July 1.This year’s property tax payments are expected to generate a record $9.1 billion dollars. So far, 98.78% of property taxes have been collected with $110,842,184 outstanding.
“For that small percentage of bills that are not yet paid, we want to remind homeowners that there is still time to avoid additional penalties,” McAllister said.
