These aren’t your daddy’s Pittsburgh Steelers.
The iconic franchise has traded for three-time All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins and also given him a $1.5 million pay raise, bringing his 2025 salary to $26.5 million.
Ramsey is now headed to PittsburghGettyThe Steelers traded their own star defensive back, Minkah Fitzpatrick, to the Dolphins in exchange for Ramsey.
However, that wasn’t the only transaction between the two teams on Monday morning.
Miami also traded tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 7th round pick to Pittsburgh for a 2027 5th round pick.
Smith also gets a one-year, $12 million extension with the Steel City franchise.
Are you following? To sum it up, the Steelers received CB Jalen Ramsey, TE Jonnu Smith and a 2027 7th round pick, while the Dolphins received S Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 5th round pick.
It is a blockbuster trade between the two franchises, and one that unequivocally states that the Steelers are going all in on 2025.
With Aaron Rodgers at the helm, and the likelihood of it being his last season, Pittsburgh is pushing all of its chips towards the middle of the table.
ESPN’s NFL insider Peter Schrager summed up Pittsburgh’s star-studded offseason acquisition affair perfectly.
“I’ve been laughed at (on TV and off) for the take, but you don’t go and acquire Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Rodgers, WR DK Metcalf, and CB Darius Slay if you DON’T have serious Super Bowl aspirations,” Schrager wrote on X.
“These are “all in” moves. Whether they are or not, Pitt thinks they’re close.”

Nearly a decade without postseason success in Pittsburgh is hard to fathom, but that’s been the reality.
Tomlin heads into his 19th season as the man in charge, and while never finishing with a losing record in any of his seasons with the Steelers, his seat has been quietly starting to heat up.
All of these moves that the organization has made the last few months, know that ownership (and the fanbase) has been getting restless.
And with the Ramsey acquisition acting as the cherry on top, there are no more excuses for this team to win, at the bare minimum, one playoff game.
The trade sent social media into a frenzy.

“The Steelers are building a superteam,” one fan posted on X.
“Massive win-win. Steelers land a superstar in Ramsey, and he gets that well-deserved raise. Defense in Pittsburgh just got scary,” another fan commented.
“Pittsburgh is doing all they can to give Rodgers that one last shot at a SB,” one more added.
Ramsey turns 31 in October, and has slowed down a bit, which makes the decision to give the aging cornerback a raise, somewhat of a surprise.
Especially when you consider that Pittsburgh’s best player, T.J. Watt, is still without a new contract extension.
Whether that gets done still remains to be seen, but it is the last big box, and arguably the most important one, for general manager Omar Khan to check.
If he can work out a new deal with Watt before the season begins, the feather in Khan’s cap may just turn into a Lombardi Trophy in a few months time.
