Bhubaneswar: An FIR has been lodged at Kharavela Nagar Police Station here following a shocking assault on Ratnakar Sahoo, Additional Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), during a public grievance redressal meeting on Monday.
Sahoo(55) detailed the violent incident in his complaint, stating that at approximately 11:30 a.m., six to seven unidentified, heavily built individuals unauthorizedly entered the BMC premises. They confronted him about a telephonic conversation with one Jagannath Pradhan, and upon his confirmation, launched an unprovoked attack.
The assailants brutally beat Sahoo in the presence of Corporator of Ward No. 29, Jeevan Rout, BMC officers, staff, and citizens, causing severe injuries and profuse facial bleeding.
The attackers allegedly attempted to abduct Sahoo, dragging him toward a vehicle while demanding he apologize to Pradhan. Despite his pleas, the assault continued until BMC staff intervened, preventing the abduction. The assailants also snatched Sahoo’s mobile phone and posted scandalous content on his WhatsApp status, a snapshot of which was attached to the FIR.
A disturbing video circulating online shows Sahoo being punched, kicked, and dragged outside the BMC office, sparking outrage and demands for swift justice.
The FIR describes the incident as a serious threat to public officials and government decorum, urging immediate legal action.
The incident has raised alarm over the safety of public servants and the sanctity of government institutions.
