The body of a missing Chicago man who was last seen while boating in the Wisconsin Dells nearly three months ago was found by law enforcement on Sunday, authorities said.
At around 2:13 p.m., police recovered the body of Francesco Di Filippo, 20, after receiving a report of a deceased person in the water near Newport Beach in nearby Lake Delton.
“The Wisconsin Dells Police Department sends its deepest condolences to the Di Filippo/Schultz family,” Wisconsin Dells police said in a Facebook post. “While tragic, we hope that the recovery of Francesco provides a measure of closure for them.”
Francesco Di Filippo disappeared on April 3 while boating in the Wisconsin River with 75-year-old Luis Di Filippo amid challenging water conditions. Both men, along with a third person, were on a boat that capsized south of the Kilbourn Dam. The third individual managed to make it to shore, police said.
The elder Di Fillipo’s body was recovered the following day following an extensive search.
Law enforcement and volunteer groups spent the subsequent weeks searching for Francesco Di Fillipo and deployed boats with sonar capabilities, aerial drones in their search efforts.
