‘We Were Liars’ (2025)
Let’s start things off with Prime Video’s first breakout hit of the summer. We Were Liars adapts the novel by E. Lockhart, with Emily Alyn Lind starring as Cadence “Cady” Sinclair Eastman, a teenager who was born into an incredibly wealthy family. Each summer, Cady and her cousins, Johnny (Joseph Zada) and Mirren (Esther McGregor), as well as their mutual friend, Gat Patil (Shubham Maheshwari), spend all of their time together. Collectively, they call themselves the liars.

Their close bond is threatened when Cady is nearly killed in an accident. One year later, Cady’s fellow liars aren’t willing to talk about what really happened to her and her own mother, Penny Sinclair (Caitlin FitzGerald), is also being evasive. That’s why it falls to Cady to discover the things they won’t tell her, even if she comes to regret asking questions.

‘Jack Ryan’ (2018 – 2023)
It just wouldn’t be summer without some action, and Prime Video’s Jack Ryan is the best action series the streamer has ever had. The Office‘s John Krasinski gets to completely reinvent his persona when he steps into the title role of Tom Clancy‘s legendary action hero.
At the beginning of the series, Jack is just an ordinary CIA analyst riding a desk job. But he’s also the only man the CIA has who may be able to crack a terrorist plot. Through the show’s four seasons, Jack evolves into a more conventional action hero who can handle just about anything. And if you’ve missed Jack’s adventures since the show came to an end, Prime Video is already working on a movie with Krasinski reprising his role once again.

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ (2022 – Present)
The third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is coming to Prime Video on July 16, but there’s more than enough time to get current on this teenage romance story. Lola Tung headlines the series as Isabel “Belly” Conklin, a teenager who always felt awkward when spending the summer visiting her family’s friends in the Fisher family.
As suggested by the title of the show, the first season followed Belly as she realized that the Fisher brothers, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), both had romantic feelings for her as she finally became a young woman. Although Belly had stronger feelings for Conrad before this summer, she finds herself returning Jeremiah’s affections as well. This love triangle isn’t going to be easy to resolve without breaking someone’s heart, and fans will get to see who Belly chooses once and for all when the final season premieres next month.

3 Underrated Amazon Prime Video Movies to Watch This Weekend (June 13-15)
‘Hannibal’ (2013 – 2015)
Hannibal is the outlier on this list because it’s not an Amazon original. But since Prime Video has one of the all-time great horror thrillers at your disposal, it would be rude not to watch it. And Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) has been known to eat the rude. Mikkelsen’s performance as Hannibal was perhaps his most understated and sinister turn ever, which is saying a lot considering he’s played so many villains.
This show was impeccably shot and directed with some of the most beautiful and grotesque imagery ever put on network television. Hugh Dancy co-stars in the series as FBI profiler Will Graham, with Laurence Fishburne as his boss, Jack Crawford. At Jack’s behest, Will consults with Hannibal on some of the FBI’s most challenging cases even as he battles his own inner darkness. All three seasons of Hannibal are currently available, and this series remains a masterpiece.

‘Jury Duty’ (2023 – Present)
Jury Duty is an unusual hybrid between a scripted comedy and a reality series. The only person on this show who is exactly as he presents himself is Ronald Gladden, an ordinary solar contractor who unwittingly took part in a fake trial as a juror. Everyone else around Ronald — from the jurors to the judge, as well as the lawyers and the defendant — is an actor. And this off-the-wall case is designed to mine comedy from Ronald’s reaction to their antics.

The only well-known actor to take part in this series is James Marsden, who plays himself as one of the alternate jurors. Marsden brings a lot of funny moments to the show, but the truly suspenseful part of the show isn’t just the outcome of the case. It’s about how Ronald will react when he learns the truth about what’s happening. A second season of Jury Duty is supposedly in the works, but it would be hard to top the first season.
