COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- AEP has restored power to more than 5,400 customers after an outage affected areas on the northeast side of Columbus Saturday afternoon.
According to a social media post, the power company said the power was out due to a damaged transmission line that, at one point, affected 7,248 customers in the Westerville and Worthington areas for a good part of the afternoon. Watch tips on what to do during an outage in the video player above.
As of 8:05 p.m., AEP had restored power to all the customers affected by the initial outage. Other customers experiencing outages in the county were expected to have their power restored by 11 p.m.
On social media, the power provider said a Mylar balloon was responsible for knocking out the power.
"The metallic coating on Mylar balloons conducts electricity," the company wrote. "Unfortunately, one flew into our equipment, damaging it."

In addition, as of 9:10 p.m., there were approximately 1,000 customers combined in Fairfield and Licking counties without power; AEP estimates service won't be restored until noon Sunday.
