The Public Prosecution in Egypt launched an urgent investigation into the tragic traffic accident that occurred on Friday on the Regional Road in the Ashmoun district of Menoufia Governorate, which killed 19 peopled and injured three others on their way to work.
A team of Public Prosecution members immediately went to the accident site to access the scene and interview eyewitnesses.
Initial examinations revealed that the driver of the truck-trailer crossed the barrier separating both directions, resulting in a collision with a microbus.
The driver responsible for the accident was subsequently arrested and brought before the Public Prosecution, which ordered his pretrial detention pending investigations.
A laboratory analysis of samples taken from the driver revealed that he had been under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident.
The Public Prosecution affirms its full commitment to uncovering all the circumstances surrounding the incident and announcing the results of the investigations immediately upon their completion, in order to protect the lives of citizens.
