A Carlsbad restaurant – and its “moveable feast” – has been awarded a Michelin star for its fresh take on California cuisine.
Lilo, which opened in April, already achieved the feat, Michelin said in a news release, becausee Chef Eric Bost and his team show “clear pride in providing an extra level of care in their dishes.”
Michelin awards up to three stars for the best in worldwide cuisine. Lilo was the only San Diego County restaurant to earn a new star, along with four others in California.

Two Los-Angeles area eateries gained the coveted three-star status – Providence in Hollywood and Somni in West Hollywood.
Michelin pointed to the beginning of the experience at Lilo, on a “heated patio with an array of small bites before moving into the petite dining room,” where diners might try “dry-aged Japanese kinmedai paired with a ragout of geoduck and bone marrow or 40-day dry-aged beef ribeye with preserved gurumelo mushrooms, seaweed, and bordelaise.”
Lilo also received praise for its “shift from savory to sweet” in dishes such as orgeat ice cream topped with celery root bushi and Ossetra cavia, and “a myriad of desserts” like sweet cream gelato topped with hoja santa and finger lime.
Nine local restaurants attained Michelin “Bib Gourmand” status, to recognize restaurants that offer “great food at a great value.” They are:
Atelier Manna, Encinitas Callie, East Village Cesarina, Point Loma Ciccia Osteria, Barrio Logan Cucina Urbana, Bankers Hill Dija Mara, Oceanside LOLA 55, East Village Mabel’s Gone Fishing, North Park Morning Glory, Little ItalyCalifornia’s current slate of restaurants in the Michelin Guide, including Bib Gourmands and those with stars, totals 548 eateries covering 55 types of cuisine.
