Georgia is heating up and gaining plenty of momentum for the 2026 recruiting class under head coach Kirby Smart. On Saturday, the Bulldogs kept things rolling with yet another elite prospect committing to the program.
This time, Georgia dipped into Florida for the pickup of defensive lineman James Johnson, a prime interior defender. Johnson was also considering Texas, Florida and Miami before committing to the Bulldogs.

Listed at 6-foot-2.5 and 285 pounds out of Miami’s Northwestern High School, Johnson is rated as a 4-star recruit for the cycle. The 247 Sports Composite also rates Johnson as the 8th DL in the country and the 69th overall prospect, regardless of position.
Johnson has also participated in track and field during high school. He was extremely productive across his sophomore and junior seasons at North Fort Myers before transferring to Northwestern ahead of his senior season.
Georgia’s addition of Johnson brings the Bulldogs up to 24 hard commitments for the cycle thus far, a group that is in the mix for the top recruiting class in the country. That group currently ranks No. 2 nationally per the team composite with 6 of the top 100 prospects in the country.
The past week has been especially beneficial for Georgia with 7 commitments since June 22, last Sunday. Now, the Bulldogs are hot on the heels of USC for the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
