In addition to the new Michelin Guide California starred restaurants announced on Wednesday night, the dining guide also revealed six new Bib Gourmand eateries for the Golden State, including three for Los Angeles County.
Komal and Rasarumah in Los Angeles and Hermosa Beach’s Vin Folk nabbed Bib Gourmand honors this year.
Opening in 2024 by former Holbox chefs Fátima Juárez and Conrado Rivera, Komal focuses on pre-Hispanic Indigenous food. Noted for its fresh tortillas, among its other dishes, “Juárez and her staff nixtamalize their corn on site for 12 to 14 hours,” according to the Los Angeles Times. Rasarumah, opening in 2024 in Filipinotown, features contemporary Chinese Malaysian fare care of former Pearl River Deli chef Johnny Lee. “Rasarumah is where Lee can display his decades-long obsession with foods that explore the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia, in a restaurant name that translates to “flavor house” in Malay,” reported Eater LA. And Vin Folk, which also opened last year in Hermosa Beach, was described in a Time Out review as “a reasonably priced, deeply satisfying 45-seat bistro” with a French-forward menu.
