During the June 25 episode of her podcast tour special, Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour, the Laguna Beach alum, 38, addressed long-standing rumors surrounding her and Conover, 36, four years after the two were first linked.
That media frenzy, she explained, only intensified over time.
According to Cavallari, things escalated even more when Conover appeared on Summer House, where his then-girlfriend Paige DeSorbo also became part of the conversation.
It was a turning point for Cavallari, who noted how differently she viewed having those kinds of headlines written about her now that she's a mom.
She continued, "It definitely made me kind of take a step back and realize that I kind of needed to reel things in a little bit. So ultimately, I guess maybe it was a good thing, because it was kind of a wake-up call."
"I've always assumed there was a little overlap between Paige and I with Craig," Cavallari admitted. "I'm not really expecting Craig to be like, 'Yeah, you're absolutely right. I did lie to you and I lied to Paige.' I just think it's kind of fun to give him a hard time about it."
"I don't really think there was as much overlap as everyone thinks," he said. "I actually am an honest person, like I never lied to you about anything. Eventually, it just got to the point [where] Paige and I decided to date and we stopped talking."
Earlier this month, she echoed similar sentiments on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, clarifying the nature of her relationship with Conover.
As for whether there was any romantic crossover with DeSorbo, she said, "There was a picture of Craig and Paige in New York—I'll never forget it—and it looked like they were sort of together. That was the first time anyone had seen them. That was the first I had heard about it."
