An Aurora man will spend the rest of his life in prison after kidnapping and sexually assaulting a hotel clerk in 2020, according to court records.
Arapahoe County District Court Judge Jacob Edson sentenced 37-year-old Khafre Buxton on June 13 to 99 years to life in prison on seven felony charges, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
An Arapahoe County jury in April found Buxton guilty on all charges, including two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of sexual assault, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of unlawful sexual contact, court records show.
The jury also convicted Buxton of a violent crime sentence enhancer, according to court records.
Buxton knocked on the door of a Quality Inn at 1011 South Abilene Street in Aurora at about 3 a.m. on Dec. 19, 2020, according to the news release.
When the front desk clerk opened the door, Buxton threatened her with a machete, agency officials said.
Buxton took the clerk and a hotel security guard to the back office and emptied a filing cabinet of money before kidnapping the clerk, agency officials said.
He drove to a nearby hardware store, where he sexually assaulted her, according to the district attorney’s office.
