ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A nice cooldown in our temperatures is in store today, but so is some A.M. rain. Things don’t improve tomorrow, as the First Alert Weather team has issued a Yellow Alert in anticipation of potentially strong to severe thunderstorms. The biggest threat with these storms is localized flooding from heavy downpours, as well as strong winds.
Before that though, we’ve got today’s rain to deal with. Wet weather will last through the morning and perhaps a little into the afternoon, with a quarter to a half inch of rain expected in total. Our highs today will be in the 60s and 70s, a big cooldown compared to the 90s we had early this week! Mostly cloudy skies once that rain passes.
Timing for tomorrow’s storms will be in the afternoon and evening. As stated above, the biggest risk with this particular batch of storms will be localized flooding and some wind damage. Sudden heavy downpours will cause flash flooding; do not attempt to drive through flooded roads. The water is always deeper than it looks. Wind damage is a threat but less so than the flooding. Expect a few branches down; maybe an isolated power outage. Highs will be in the mid 80s and air will be humid.
Storms are possible again on Saturday as humidity rises a little more, but it’s too early to call how strong they may be. Stay tuned as we continue to monitor that throughout today and tomorrow. Sunday is looking much nicer with temperatures in the low 80s alongside mostly sunny skies and tolerable humidity.
