Manchester City head into their third and final Group G game of the Club World Cup having already confirmed their place in the knockout stage of the newly revamped tournament, but still need a win against Juventus on Thursday to finish top of the group.
Pep Guardiola’s side face what is on paper their most difficult test of the group stage, but are currently the only side remaining in the tournament yet to concede a goal in the competition having won their opening matches by scorelines of 2-0 and 6-0.
An opening day victory over Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia was followed by a 6-0 thrashing of Emirati side Al Ain in Atlanta sending the Citizens through to the Round of 16 of this summer’s Club World Cup with a game to spare.
The Premier League side have now won their last four matches in all competitions ahead of Thursday night’s bout in Florida, and have lost just one of their last 15.
Juventus also head to Florida having confirmed their place in the last 16 after consecutive wins to open their Club World Cup campaign, and need only a draw to confirm their place as Group G winners and likely avoid a last 16 clash with record five-time champions Real Madrid.
Igor Tudor, who spent six and a half years as a player with Juventus, took over as manager in late March and has lost just one of the 11 matches he’s managed since his appointment, of which the club are unbeaten in their last seven and have won each of their last four.
Only Bayern Munich, who put 10 past a semi-pro Auckland City, have scored more goals in this summer’s Club World Cup than Juventus, who beat Al Ain 5-0 in their opener winning 4-1 against Wydad Casablanca on Sunday afternoon.
Juventus have won their last three matches against Manchester City, including a 2-0 win in Turin as recently as December last year, with City not having beaten the Italian giants in 49 years, seven meetings ago.
