Infielder Ildemaro Vargas became the latest Arizona Diamondbacks player to come up with an injury on a hit-by-pitch, as he suffered a fractured right foot on Tuesday at the Chicago White Sox.
Vargas took a curveball from Chicago pitcher Mike Vasil directly off his foot in the second inning. He remained in the game initially before getting replaced by utility man Tim Tawa in the bottom of the fourth.
Vargas dropped down and struggled to get back on his feet after the pitch hit him. The team later announced he left with a fractured fifth metatarsal.

Arizona has seen three players on its current road trip leave a game with an injury after a hit-by-pitch.
The Diamondbacks started Vargas at third base on Tuesday in place of Eugenio Suarez, who was hit on his right hand in Monday’s 10-0 win over the White Sox. Suarez had a wrap on his hand in the dugout Tuesday, and manager Torey Lovullo told reporters pregame that Suarez will get an MRI once the swelling goes down.
Outfielder Corbin Carroll was hit in the hand by a pitch last week in Toronto, and he went on the 10-day injured list with a fractured wrist.
With Suarez and first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder discomfort) ailing on the bench, Tawa and backup catcher James McCann were the only healthy replacement options coming into the game.
Suarez is not expected to play on Wednesday, leaving the Diamondbacks very short along the infield. The injuries extend to the minor leagues, as infield prospect Jordan Lawlar has not played since Thursday due to a tight hamstring.
Infielder Blaze Alexander was scratched from Triple-A Reno’s lineup on Tuesday after Vargas went down.
Vargas had been playing well as a backup utility infielder. He has played 10 MLB games this year, hitting .286 with a .774 OPS.
