This is bucking precedent—Samsung usually announces its foldable phones around mid-year—but all but confirmed given hints in the company’s own announcement, which isn’t exactly aiming for subtlety: While Samsung won't confirm details until the day of, the announcement headline reads “Galaxy Unpacked July 2025: The Ultra Experience Is Ready to Unfold.” Plus, a teaser posted to Samsung’s YouTube closes with the line “Ultra Unfolds.”
The next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will take place in Brooklyn on July 9 at 10 a.m. ET. Like past Samsung announcements, you’ll be able to follow along live on either Samsung.com or Samsung’s own YouTube channel. In person, it’ll be hosted in at a venue in Brooklyn, although it won’t be open to the public. (Lifehacker will bring you the latest news from Galaxy Unpacked as it becomes available.)
What to expect from the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked
Samsung’s invitation, plus a now deleted post from earlier this month, point to an Ultra-branded foldable showing up at some point, but what we don’t know is whether it will release in addition to the current Z Fold and Flip lines, or if it will replace one or both entirely.
Regardless of whatever Samsung’s new device or devices are called, here's what we already know: In February, Android Headlines worked with leaker OnLeaks to post CAD renders of what it suspected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and late last week, the site posted what it’s calling official renders as well. It’s still calling this phone the Fold 7, so it’s possible the Ultra will be something else entirely, although it’s telling that if it is, nothing about it has leaked. Perhaps Samsung is just renaming the Fold 7?
A thinner foldable
Also notable is that the under-display pinhole camera on the internal display seems to have been replaced with a punch hole camera, likely to improve quality. This will mean a slight interruption to your screen space, although it takes up less real estate here than the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.
A new screen shape
Leaks aren’t expecting a major power increase, expecting the phone to run the same Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip that’s in the Galaxy S25 series of phones. Despite the phone being thinner, battery capacity should match prior generations, though.
A major camera upgrade—maybe?
A new Galaxy Z Flip 7
As for whatever Samsung’s next flip phone will be, leaked details are a bit more sparse. It does seem like one is on the way, and animation renders from Android Headlines and Onleaks point to it having a larger external display more akin to Motorola’s Razr. That means it’ll extend around the dual camera lenses for a total of 3.6-inches of screen space overall. The inner display is also set to gain an inch, hitting 6.8-inches, although thickness should remain the same. The phone as a whole might be a little wider, at 75.2mm, but other dimensions should be roughly equivalent to the Z Flip 6, as should camera specs. Processor details aren’t yet known.
What the new devices will cost
For concrete details, we’ll just have to wait until July 9. Stay tuned for more updates.
