MANCHESTER, N.Y. — Part of a New York State highway could soon be renamed in honor of a local Air Force member who died during a training mission in Arizona.
Staff Sgt. Kory Wade, a Manchester native and 2008 graduate of Red Jacket High School, was on a jet ski retrieving paratroopers during a training mission when he died. It happened on Roosevelt Lake in June of 2023. News10NBC spoke with Wade’s family members about his service and sacrifice.
The State Legislature passed a bill to rename a stretch of State Route 21 in Wade’s honor. It’s the stretch from the intersection with State Route 96 to the intersection with Latting Road and Standpipe Road in the Town of Manchester.
The bill is awaiting the governor’s signature. You can see a list of other bills awaiting Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signature after recent sessions in Albany in this story.
