Keegan Bradley showcased his competitive fire to snatch a dramatic Travelers Championship victory from Tommy Fleetwood.
The Englishman finally looked to be on course to claim his maiden PGA Tour title at TPC River Highlands, as he held a two-shot lead with three holes to play, before suffering heartbreak.
Bradley kept his cool to snatch a dramatic win at the Travelers ChampionshipGettyAfter a decent tee shot on the 18th, a poor putt on his third left Fleetwood needing to hole from six-feet to make par.
He narrowly missed and bogeyed the hole, offering a glimmer of hope to Bradley, who had reached the green in two, on course for a birdie putt.
The 2011 PGA Championship winner made no mistake and snatched victory at the death to secure his eighth win on the tour.
And as Bradley found victory in Connecticut, his former rival Miguel Angel Jimenez had plenty to celebrate at Firestone Country Club in Ohio.
The Spanish golfer won the Kaulig Companies Championship on Sunday, rallying to force a playoff where he beat Steven Alker with a 20-foot birdie putt on the second extra hole.
It marks his fourth PGA Tour Champions victory of the season, and as both Jimenez and Bradley were victorious on the same weekend, footage of an infamous on-course clash between the pair has resurfaced.
Back in 2015, the two got in a heated argument over a ruling, which marred the end of their match in the third round of the World Golf Championships at TPC Harding Park.
A decade ago, Bradley trailed by one hole as they played the 18th, where his tee shot came to rest near a restraining fence, from which he was entitled to relief.
His drop from there then landed on a golf cart path, prompting further relief.
And that’s where Jimenez intervened, as he appeared to question the drop and even got into an argument with Bradley’s caddie, Steve ‘Pepsi’ Hale.
Jimenez took issue with Bradley’s caddie before telling him to ‘shut up’PGA Tour The American star confronted his rival, but later admitted to being embarrassed by itPGA Tour“Don’t you ever tell me to shut up,” Hale could be heard saying on the broadcast.
Bradley then jumped in to defend his caddie, and approached Jimenez to say: “Look at me right now: You don’t tell my caddie to shut up.”
The Spaniard went on to win the hole, and shook hands with Bradley on the green, who was clearly still upset about the situation afterward.
“I felt like he was being very disrespectful to not only me but my caddie so I felt like I kind of had to stand up for my boy here; me and Pepsi have been through a lot,” he said.
“It’s just a heat-of-the moment thing. There’s not much more I can say. It was disappointing. I’m pretty bummed out about it.”
Bradley, who will captain the USA at the Ryder Cup in September, has since looked back on the incident with regret.
Bradley is set to captain the USA at the Ryder Cup later this yearGetty“Yeah, I hate it,” he told the Fore Play podcast in 2023.
“Sometimes people underestimate me. I’m really embarrassed by it, and every year during the match play.
“Like, my buddies love it, so they’re like sending it in our group chats. I delete it right away because I can’t even see it because it’s so embarrassing.”
Bradley, who has clearly learned from his mistakes, remained cool to secure his first Travelers Championship victory over the weekend.
In doing so, he also fulfilled a childhood dream of winning his home-region event at New England’s longtime Tour stop, and sparked further suggestion that he could play on his own Ryder Cup team come September.
