Oleksandr Usyk’s team have provided their first statement to talkSPORT.com on the Ukrainian’s split with long-time promoter Alexander Krassyuk.
Usyk turned over as a professional with Krassyuk’s K2 Promotions in 2013 after winning gold at the London Olympics.
Together, they embarked on a stunning journey that saw ‘The Cat’ establish himself as the pound-for-pound king of boxing.
Under Krassyuk’s promotional banner, Usyk became one of only three men to achieve undisputed supremacy in two separate weight classes alongside Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue.
However, three weeks before his upcoming four-belt shootout with Daniel Dubois on July 19, Krassyuk is out of the picture.
The Ukrainian promoter stunned the boxing world by announcing that he and Usyk had amicably severed ties following a fruitful 12-year partnership.
Usyk’s handlers had remained silent on the matter up until Monday afternoon, when Head of Team Usyk and CEO of Ready to Fight, Sergey Lapin, provided an exclusive statement to talkSPORT.com shedding some light on the situation.
“This is a natural stage that many go through,” said Lapin.
“Like Mayweather, De La Hoya, Pacquiao, and Alvarez before him, Usyk reached a point where it was time to build something of his own.
“He has a strong, professional team that has long taken over key areas — from training to brand development.
“The decision was thoughtful, conflict-free, and made with respect for the shared experience and the understanding that everyone eventually follows their own path.”
Lapin’s words come two days after Krassyuk took to Instagram to drop the bombshell announcement.
Usyk and Krassyuk parted ways three weeks before his rematch with DuboisGetty“It’s been a tremendous journey — 12 years of unbelievable success,” Krassyuk’s post began.
“Two young dreamers met each other to change the game. Back in 2013, I gave you my word — and I kept it.
“At the time, no one believed we were capable of achieving what we set out to do.
“But by the grace of God, we completed the mission impossible…
“A dream come true!!! Thank you for all we’ve gone through and for the honour to be the lifetime promoter of the Double Undisputed.
“May the Lord bless you and guide your next steps. Thanks God for everything.”
Krassyuk guided Usyk to two undisputed title reignsGettyThe news is particularly shocking, given that Krassyuk attended the Usyk vs Dubois II launch press conference in April.
It remains to be seen whether Usyk will close out his career as a free agent or sign with a rival promotion.
