A tracing of the Pope’s family tree revealed the not-so-random connection. According to genealogist Henry Louis Gates Jr., the two are “ninth cousins, various times removed,” a discovery he shared with The New York Times.
The family kinship doesn't stop there — Pope Leo XIV is also distantly related to several other North American public figures, including Justin Bieber, Hillary Clinton and author Jack Kerouac.
In 2022, just before Pope Francis passed, she even pleaded to be let back in.
