India cricket team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed that he enjoyed batting with captain Shubman Gill on Day 1 of ENG vs IND 1st Test. Both the batters scored centuries on the opening day of the contest to guide the visitors to 359/3 at the end of the day’s play. Jaiswal, who is playing his first match in England, has managed to replicate his feat from Australia where he scored a century in his very first Test on foreign soil.
Jaiswal enjoyed batting with Gill
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jaiswal revealed that he had a lot of conversation with captain Gill out in the middle while they were batting. He heaped praise on the Indian captain for being calm and composed throughout the partnership. The opener revealed that the duo had planned to take it session by session.
“We spoke a lot in the middle. It was to play session by session, and cash in when there is a loose ball. There was amazing camaraderie. It was great to bat with him. He was calm and composed,” Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal and Gill stitched together a 129-run partnership that saw India dominate the second session of play in Leeds. The opener scored 101 off 159 deliveries before he was castled by England skipper Ben Stokes in 53rd over.
Talking about his knock, Jaiswal acknowledged that while he did face challenges, he kept faith in his process and it paid off ultimately.
“Challenges are always there in cricket. It’s different at different stages. I was just trying to keep faith in my process, about how to play in particular situations, how the field is, where they are bowling and what the team needs,” he added.
At the end of play on Day 1, captain Gill stayed unbeaten on 127 while his deputy Rishabh Pant finished with 65 runs to his name.
