Chelsea and Flamengo players clashed after Moises Caicedo lunged into Jorginho during a feisty first half clash.

Shortly before Pedro Neto gave the Blues a 1-0 lead in the Club World Cup encounter, Caicedo attempted to regain possession for his side.

The Ecuadorian international was let to the challenge on the former Chelsea midfielder and therefore conceded a foul.

Caicedo was then seen shouting in the face of Jorginho, who was left in a heap on the floor as his Flamengo teammates began to protest.

Referee Ivan Barton showed a yellow card as tensions between the two sides began to increase.

Jorginho was able to continue for Flamengo, who started the match strongly.

But they then found themselves 1-0 down in the 13th minute.

Neto made the most of a defensive mix-up from the Brazilian outfit and raced through on goal before slotting past Agustin Rossi.

It’s the second Club World Cup match in a row that Neto has broken the deadlock after he fired the Blues ahead in their recent 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC.

Flamengo came close to equalising towards the end of the first half, but Levi Colwill did well to clear off the line.

Chelsea then appealed for a penalty after a foul on Enzo Fernandez, however nothing was awarded following a swift check from VAR.

Enzo Maresca’s side also saw Neto and Liam Delap booked after the earlier tackle from Caicedo.

Jorginho, who left Chelsea for Arsenal in 2023, spoke beforehand on his excitement of reuniting with his former teammates.

“It’s always nice to meet a team you’ve played for before. It’s always nice to see your friends again,” he said.

“I’m ready to help in any way I can, on or off the field, talking, I’ll definitely do that.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game, we know how good they are, and we’re going to prepare for this big game.”

Chelsea and Flamengo both entered Friday night’s clash with three points a piece in Club World Cup Group D.

The former beat LAFC 2-0, whilst the latter won by the same scoreline against Tunisian outfit Esperance de Tunis.
