ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roc City Ninja is sending 30 local athletes to compete in the World Ninja League Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. The gym, which opened just six months ago, has quickly become a hub for young athletes eager to test their skills on obstacle courses.
Head Coach Danny Adair described the sport as a playground where athletes learn to navigate through obstacles. “It’s basically a playground. Their ability to learn how to, physically make their way through a playground and treat it like an obstacle course,” said Adair.
The event offers an opportunity for kids to compete and socialize. Caelyn Godlewski, one of the athletes, said her favorite part is “probably, honestly, the team bonding. I really like making friends.”
The competition runs from Friday to Monday. The athletes will face challenges like climbing monkey bars, ultimately aiming to hit the buzzer at the end. More importantly, they will focus on doing their best individually.
“Thinking about everybody else running and you’re watching everybody else run, but really, it’s just against you,” one athlete said.
Adair, who has competed on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior himself, emphasized the importance of savoring the experience. “Once it’s gone, it’s gone. And you kind of have that FOMO (fear of missing out), even though you experienced it and went through it, it’s already happened. So it’s more or less a memory at that point,” said Adair. He hopes the athletes will appreciate the moment and what they have achieved.
