News by : (Los Angeles Daily News) -

A man was shot to death by police responding to a burglary call early Thursday morning in East Hollywood.

Officers were dispatched at 4:10 a.m. to the 500 block of North Alexandria Avenue, between the 101 Freeway and Beverly Boulevard, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.

“Officers located the suspect on the second floor of an apartment complex,” according to an LAPD statement.

As officers approached from the bottom floor, the suspect threw planters down at them, police said. The man then entered an occupied apartment and allegedly drew a knife.

“Officers deployed less-lethal munitions that had no effect on the suspect,” police said. “The armed suspect approached officers, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

Police did not say if more than one officer opened fire, how many shots were fired at the suspect, or how many times he was struck, but once in custody, firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman said he was reported to be in his mid-20s.
