Tennessee took a big loss to its 2026 recruiting class when 3-star wide receiver Tyran Evans decided to decommit from the Volunteers.
The product of Cornelius, N.C., announced his intentions on Wednesday night on his social media account. He wrote: “After a lot of prayer and thought, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Tennessee.”
Evans went on to thank Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel, along with other coaches on Heupel’s staff, “for everything you’ve done for me and my family.”
Here is Evans’s heartfelt post:
After a lot of prayer and thought, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Tennessee.Thank you to Coach Heupel, Coach Kelsey Pope, Coach Joey Halzle, and the entire Vol staff for believing in me. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and my family.
— Ty? (@TyranEvans6) June 19, 2025Evans had been committed to Tennessee since January. He chose the Volunteers over other offers from South Carolina, NC State and South Florida, among others.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder from North Carolina is the 501st-ranked player from the Class of 2026, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is also the 81st-ranked wide receiver from the class and the 23rd-ranked player from the state of North Carolina.
Losing Evans is a huge blow to Tennessee’s wideout room for the 2026 season and will be another program’s gain when Evans announces where he’ll be heading instead of Knoxville. Evans just returned from an official visit to Miami last weekend. He also took official visits to Kentucky the weekend of May 30 and NC State the weekend of June 6.
