Kelsey Grammer exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about raising seven kids with a large age range before news broke that he and wife Kayte Walsh are expecting their fourth baby together.
“It’s been interesting. The age range is from [41] to 8. That’s pretty great,” Grammer, 70, told Us in an interview in May. “The 12-, 10- and 8-year-olds are the ones I spend every day with, and it’s fantastic.”
The Frasier star is currently a father of seven. He shares Spencer, 41, with ex-wife Doreen Alderman. Greer, 33, was born during his romance with Barrie Buckner, and he welcomed Mason, 23, and Jude, 20, with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Camille Meyer. He also shares Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, and James, 8, with his wife of 14 years, Walsh.
It was reported earlier this week that Walsh is pregnant with her and Grammer’s fourth child together — and his eighth overall. The former Cheers star was spotted with a heavily pregnant Walsh, 46, in London on Tuesday, June 17.
Kelsey Grammer's Family Guide: Meet His 7 Children
Before Walsh’s pregnancy was revealed, the six-time Emmy winner looked back on how becoming a father of seven — soon eight — has been the defining aspect of his life.
“[My kids] are amazing, and they make my life worthwhile,” he told Us in May. “The love I have in my life today is absolutely breathtaking.”
At the time, Grammer spoke about his and his wife’s traumatic experience of losing a child when Walsh was expecting twins in 2012. The actor wrote in his 2025 memoir, Karen: A Brother Remembers, that “the greatest pain” he’d ever known was when he and Walsh made the decision to abort one of the twins due to severe complications.
Doctors told the couple at 13 weeks that the male twin’s amniotic sac ruptured and was unrepairable. Faced with the risk of losing both twins, the expectant parents made the heart-wrenching decision to abort their male twin in order to save their daughter’s life. (Their female twin, Faith, was born healthy in February 2012.)

“It actually made us stronger in a lot of ways,” he told Us. “Kayte went through a lot. We can cry buckets over that day, but we have the blessing of knowing that [our son] Gabriel came [next].”
Grammer also opened up in May about how the 1975 murder of sister Karen changed his family dynamic forever. The actor had just returned to Florida when his sister was abducted and murdered by Freddie Glenn, Michael Corbett, Larry Dunn and Eric McLeod as part of a killing spree that took the lives of seven people that summer. (Glenn is serving life imprisonment after being convicted of Karen’s death and two other murders. Corbett served 43 years behind bars for the murders prior to his death in 2019. Dunn was never tried for Karen’s murder but was convicted of lesser crimes and cooperated with prosecutors in Glenn’s case. McLeod was sentenced to 15 to 20 years imprisonment for pleading guilty to armed robbery and rape.)
Kelsey Grammer's Ups and Downs Through the Years
Grammer wrote in Karen: A Brother Remembers that he was “desolated” and “drowning in grief” following his sister’s murder. He tearfully explained to Us that he’s finally been able to heal one of the most traumatic events in his life through sharing Karen’s story.
“It’s been amazing,” he said. “I don’t carry the self-loathing part anymore. I don’t blame myself anymore. I just miss her.”
Addressing the lasting impact of Karen’s death, Grammer said, “I hope [my kids] don’t have to experience what I’ve experienced. I want my kids to live fully and take risks and be bold and adventurous.”
