LSU is calling on right-hander Zac Cowan to start Wednesday night’s College World Series semifinal showdown against SEC rival Arkansas.
If Cowan can help the Tigers win again and stay unbeaten in Omaha, they would advance to this weekend’s Championship Final 3-game series against Coastal Carolina, which routed Louisville to advance on Wednesday afternoon.

Cowan will oppose Arkansas left-hander Landon Beidelschies in the all-SEC semifinal that will start at 7 p.m. ET and be shown on ESPN. Wednesday night’s start will only be Cowan’s 2nd of the entire season, while Beidelschies will be making his first start since May 11. Neither pitcher has pitched in the past 2 weeks, so both will be well-rested going into the huge matchup with everything on the line.
Because Cowan’s last appearance for LSU came all the way back in the regional, he could be in line to go multiple innings on Wednesday night, if needed. Cowan has a high ceiling when he’s going strong, but he’s struggled to throw strikes in recent weeks. LSU is hoping that trend ends against Arkansas, and Cowan can help the Tigers eliminate the Razorbacks and move on to the final against Coastal Carolina.

If Arkansas can beat LSU on Wednesday night, the teams would play again on Thursday night in a winner-take-all showdown to determine who opposes Coastal Carolina in the final this weekend.
