Food Network star Anne Burrell joked about doing Meghan Markle’s show ...Middle East

Before her sudden and unexpected death Tuesday, Food Network star Anne Burrell was excited about performing improv, celebrating her fourth wedding anniversary in October and even cooking on Meghan Markle’s show and trying the aspiring lifestyle guru’s infamous raspberry jam.

The beloved 55-year-old TV chef, known for her spiky platinum hair and her high-energy ability for bringing “punk,” “funk” and flair to the TV cooking world, was found “unconscious and unresponsive” at her home in Brooklyn, New York Tuesday morning, as People and other outlets reported.

Emergency responders arrived and pronounced her deceased. Her family announced her death to the public, but did not cite a cause. A New York City police spokesperson told People that the chief examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, and an investigation remains “ongoing.”

The night before, Burrell “was in great spirits,” during and after she performed an improv show at The Second City New York in Brooklyn, a source told People. The show was the finale of her course of improv classes, according to her Instagram. “Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast,” a second source told People.

In April, that exuberance also was on display during an interview with the Daily Mail at New York City’s annual, star-studded City Harvest Gala, to raise money to provide millions of meals to residents in need.

Burrell talked animatedly about how much she was enjoying married life to Stuart Claxton, whom she wed in October 2021 in an autumn-themed wedding, the Daily Mail said. She also joked about appearing on Meghan’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan.”

“Sure, of course.  Why not cook with Meghan?” Burrell laughed after being asked if she would want to be a guest.

From Burrell’s response, it doesn’t sound as though she had ever been asked to be on Meghan’s show, much less taped an episode — unlike Alice Waters of Chez Panisse.

So, it’s questionable whether Burrell fans would get to enjoy her in a posthumous appearance on “With Love, Meghan,” the Netflix hospitality show starring the California-based Duchess of Sussex. “With Love, Meghan” wrapped its first, eight-season episode in March. The second season is scheduled to air sometime in the fall, and those episodes already have been filmed, Netflix has said.

In the interview with the Daily Mail, Burrell also revealed that she had never tried Meghan’s disputed raspberry “spread”

“I’m not really a jam girl,’ Burrell said, sharing that she sometimes makes scones for her husband. “I make scones and we have jam then. Other than that, I wouldn’t say I’m super jammy.”

Burrell and Clayton were married in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York, and she talked to the Daily Mail about their upcoming anniversary. “October will be four years,” she said. “It seems like it’s been four minutes. I don’t know if it’s a honeymoon (phase), but I feel like it’s settled into married life days which I really enjoy.’

Burrell, best known for starring on the show “Worst Cooks in America,” frequently shared pictures of her husband and their family, including photos of his son Javier from a previous relationship. The media personality also had become excited about taking an “Improv for Actors” class, no doubt to hone her skills as a performer and to gain confidence in being able think on the fly.

In a March 19 Instagram post, she said about the class: “Can I just say it is SO much fun and I am learning so SO much!!! It really helps me get out of my shell… as if I needed that!! #ilovewhatido #luckygirl.”
