ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert is up through this evening for areas of flash flooding. Thunderstorms have been producing torrential rain Wednesday afternoon and evening. These storms have been slow moving, producing as much as 1-3″ in some areas. Do not drive through flooded roads! Find another way around. The storms will wane, and any flooded roads will begin to recede by 7 or 8, and the Yellow Alert will be discontinued then.
Any lingering storms from Wednesday evening will pass, and we’ll be left with a very soupy airmass, with a few more showers or a storm overnight. Thursday will start off warm and very humid once again, with a little bit of sun. A cold front will pass through, and winds will pick up, with some gusts near 40 mph during the afternoon. On the plus side, the dew point will begin to drop, and our air will begin to dry out. That being said, a few showers or an isolated storm is still possible, mainly during the afternoon.
Friday will be a much more comfortable day with lower humidity and temperatures in the 70s. An isolated shower is possible, but much of the day should be dry, which is great news for graduations and the Jazz Festival.
We’re going to start to crank up the heat and humidity once again over the weekend. Saturday turns more humid with highs in the mid and upper 80s. Sunday will push 90 for the first time this season, and dew points will surge into the 70s. There’s a chance for a few storms either weekend day, but once again we’ll see lots of dry time. The heat sticks around into at least the first half of next week, with high humidity, and heat index values into the triple digits during the afternoon. This is dangerous heat if you have to be outside working in it for an extended period of time. Make sure to take breaks and hydrate!
