According to co-star Charlotte Stewart, who played beloved schoolteacher Miss Beadle on the hit 1970s series, then-9-year-old Melissa Gilbert was surprisingly devoted to her craft.
Even as a child, Stewart said Gilbert had the emotional range and on-camera instincts of a pro.
Host and fellow Little House alum Labyorteaux chimed in, saying that watching the scenes between Gilbert and Stewart made viewers “fall in love with both of you.”
Later in the interview, Stewart shared a memory from her audition for the show. Expecting a standard casting call, she arrived in a tie-dye T-shirt and jeans — only to be surrounded by bonnet-wearing hopefuls fully dressed for the Old West.
