James Wade’s horrifying tactics have been shown again for all to see, or in this case smell, at darts’ Players Championship.
The world No.10 was in action in Leicester in Event 17 of the tour on Tuesday, facing fellow veteran Peter Wright and left him reeling for more than one reason.
Wade was walking to collect his darts when he added an extra sound effect@viaplaysportnl Wright was laughing but clearly disgusted@viaplaysportnlWade would beat Wright 6-5 to make the quarter-finals, but Snakebite had other issues on stage when his victor let out a fart.
Wright stepped back and laughed uncomfortably, but Wade’s joke quickly backfired when the match caller told him the clash was being televised.
Owen Binks informed the perpetrator: “Oh boy, okay then… This is a streamed match guys.”
“It slipped out,” sighed Wade, who then added: “Give it a second.”
Wright thought it needed more than a second though, and Wade tried to prompt him back onto the oche, saying: “Go ahead. Do you want nine more arrows?”
It’s not the first time the 42-year-old has passed wind during a match.
He did the same less than a year ago in September 2024, also at the Players Championship.
Wade was also playing the same tournament in Leicester, so this could well be an annual event, and a warning to his 2026 opponents.
On that occasion he beat Callan Rydz 6-5 to reach the semi-finals before losing to Gary Anderson.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, farting isn’t the only weirdness Wade displays on stage, as in March this year he appeared to lick world No.1 Luke Humphries.
Wade moved to the back of the stage@viaplaysportnl Wright had to wait before taking his next shot@viaplaysportnlWade upset ‘Cool Hand Luke’ at the UK Open with a quarter-final win, and before the match cameras showed him appearing to lick Humphries’ neck during their pre-match embrace.
There were other mind games going on too, and the pair didn’t shake hands before the deciding set, with Humphries seeming to give his opponent a small shoulder barge after losing.
Writing on social media post-match, he said: “Everyone loves to see people be a bad loser but I’m generally one of the best losers in the sport.
“I wasn’t going to give someone who didn’t deserve my respect after what he was doing through the game a hug and be all happy about it, that’s just my honesty.”
Humphries soon deleted the post and just two days later Wade was back at it.
Facing the legendary Raymond van Barneveld at the Belgian Open, he seemed to give the Dutchman a kiss during their embrace, much to his bafflement.
Wade is used to bizarre mind gamesPDCYet much like during all these other farts and licks, Wade was once again the victor, showing that his disruptions aren’t a laughing matter – especially for those standing nearby.
