Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford will indeed take place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas despite a late U-turn.

The huge super-fight had been touted to take place originally on September 13 in Las Vegas at the $2 billion venue.

Canelo and Crawford could face each other in front of over $60,000 fans

Promoter Dana White then complained about the fight being held in a stadium suggesting it was the one thing he ‘hated’ about the event.

He said: “Yeah, I hate it. So because I hate it so much, you know I’m gonna have to try and figure out how to make it an incredible experience inside Allegiant.”

Turki Alalshikh appeared to remove White from the chief promoter of the event, and tease that it could instead take place on September 12.

But White and Alalshikh later confirmed that they would still run the event together and it was officially confirmed for the originally planned date.

And after Netflix were announced as the global broadcast partner, it has been confirmed officially that it will land at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders.

A deal was struck by the promotional team, given a college football match between the UNLV Rebels and Idaho State Bengals was set to take place that day.

The huge 65,000 seater stadium will provide a perfect opportunity for fans to flock in for arguably the sport’s biggest event of the year.

It could even extend to a capacity of 71,500 at it’s peak and the venue will no doubt peak even more interest in the blockbuster.

History will be made given it will be the first combat sports extravaganza to take place on this turf since the opening of the venue in 2020.

Crawford and Alvarez will also hope along with organisers that it can become one of the highest revenue-generating events ever.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao‘s ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015 generate $72.2 million in Sin City at the MGM Grand.

And the fight’s magnitude has been compared to their famous battle, given their prominence in the pound-for-pound rankings.

It is a career-defining bout for both fighters, with Alvarez looking to retain his undisputed 168lbs titles.

Meanwhile for Crawford, he will step up to 168lbs for the first time in his career, putting on 14lbs from his previous fighting weight of 154lbs.

‘Bud’ has yet to be beaten in his professional career, but will face an uphill battle to overcome the Mexican great.

But Amir Khan, a previous opponent of both, believes Crawford can defy the odds and get the job done.

White will promote the event despite his stance on stadium fightsGetty

“I think timing wise, it’s perfect,” he told talkSPORT.

“Because Canelo is not the fighter he was when I fought him, he’s not the same type of fighter he was then.

“And if you look at his last couple of fights, he does get caught a lot, gets hit a lot.

“And a good boxer like Crawford could beat him and outbox him, and I think Crawford is not that careless when it comes to the open, clean shot – because he is hard to hit.

“Obviously, I was different, when I put myself in that position, I was very different.

“Because I was the type of fighter that used to have too much balls, and go into war, have too much heart, and I’d get caught.

“And you know you’re going to get caught, but where Crawford is more slick, he will not get caught.

“So if Crawford doesn’t get caught with any of his hard shots, I think Crawford wins the fight easily.”
