A BIG turn of events has been revealed over a high school track star who was stripped of a state title for a celebration.

Clara Adams, a sophomore at North Salinas High School, was disqualified from participating in California’s state championships.

Late last month, Adams won the state’s 400-meter final.

However, Adams was stripped of the gold after discharging a fire extinguisher to celebrate the accomplishment.

Adams’ father gave her the extinguisher, which she used to spray her cleats with, pretending they were on fire as a form of celebration.

Now, Adams’ family is mulling legal action over the decision made by The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) to take away her gold medal, deeming the celebration to be unsportsmanlike.

Clara Adams told People over the weekend that before the race, she and her father, and personal coach, David, thought of the idea to celebrate with the extinguisher “as a way of paying homage to a past Olympian – and to add excitement to the event.”

After Clara discharged the object, which was away from the track and nowhere near the track runners, she was confronted by CIF officials.

Clara claims officials “overreacted by grabbing me and yelling in my face,” she told People.

The CIF then disqualified her from the race after believing her celebration was “unsportsmanlike.”

As a result, Adams was stripped of her 400m title and was disqualified from the rest of the meet, as she also couldn’t compete for the 200m title.

The Adams and their attorney, Adante Pointer, are now looking to take legal action if the CIF decides not to reinstate her title.

“CIF’s rules and regulations are byzantine and outdated,” Pointer told People.

“Nevertheless, we were hopeful they would do the right thing without us having to bring this issue into a court of law as it is clear they did not follow their own rules and regulations which irreparably harmed a young budding track star by robbing her of the state title without proper justification.

“CIF did not follow their own rules which led to Clara being denied a crowning achievement as the state of California 400-meter champion.

“This may cost her scholarships, NIL deals and other opportunities now and into the future.

“Not the mention the emotional distress associated with the track meet officials physcially grabbing and yelling at her.

“She can never relive that moment.”

Adams has gotten the support of the County of Monterey board of supervisors, who wrote a letter to CIF officials.

“We believe reinstating Clara Adams’ 400-meter state championship title is not only justified, but necessary to uphold the principles of fairness, intergrity, and justice,” they wrote on June 10.

“Clara serves as a role model for youth in our county and across California, and she deserves to have her victory, and her winning-setting time rightfully restored.”
