EXTENDED INTERVIEW: Bills tight end Jackson Hawes

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for their season opener against the Baltimore Ravens in three months. While much attention is on reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen and his offensive arsenal, rookie tight end Jackson Hawes could become an unsung hero for the team.

“Those guys have done a really good job kind of taking me under their wing and, and kind of showing me the ropes and knowing what to look for,” Hawes said about learning from fellow tight ends Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid.

Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott praised Hawes for his love of contact. “He likes the noise and some like it and some don’t,” said McDermott.

Hawes, a former Yale and Georgia Tech tight end, is known for his blocking skills more than his receiving, only accounting for 566 receiving yards in four college seasons.

Hawes embraces the physical aspect of the game. “When the pad comes on, you know, flying around and hitting guys,” he said.

“You got to have the personality, right? You got to love the friction. You gotta love the conflict,” McDermott said.

“I mean, I love that he said friction because I think that’s just speaks to it perfectly. He hit it right on the head. I just love contact and love getting hands on guys and moving people,” Hawes said.

Hawes is ready to become the enforcer for the Bills tight end room. “I’m fired up, man. It’s going to be sweet,” he said.
