London and the east of England are likely to see the warmest conditions, though heatwave thresholds could also be breached across the Midlands and parts of Wales.
Temperatures are expected to build gradually throughout the week. On Wednesday, the highest temperatures are expected to be around 27ºC, rising to 29ºC on Thursday.
The heat will then spread further north, with Manchester and Newcastle upon Tyne enjoying temperatures into the late 20s, along with the Midlands and parts of Wales.
“While the warmest temperatures are likely across London and the east of England, by Saturday heatwave thresholds could be reached across much of the Midlands, low-lying areas bordering the Peak District and even parts of east Wales.”
Forecasters have also warned that some rain is still possible in parts by the end of the week, with localised, heavy showers forecast depending on how humid it gets.
How long will the heatwave last for?
However, there is uncertainty in how quickly this will happen, meaning heatwave conditions could linger in some places.
