Formula 1’s European summer has taken a brief pit stop in North America for the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.

Following a triple-header across Italy, Monaco, and Spain, F1 returns to Montreal for round 10 of a thrilling 2025 season so far.

Oscar Piastri won in Barcelona last time out to move 10 points clear of McLaren team-mate Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship.

However, with F1 visiting the home races of both Norris’ parents across July in Britain and Belgium, this event could prove pivotal.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been a near-ever-present on the calendar of motorsport’s elite category since 1978.

It is the venue where Lewis Hamilton won his first ever F1 race in 2007, with the Brit desperately seeking an end to his Ferrari woes.

Reigning champion Max Verstappen, meanwhile, is now 49 points off the pace and just one penalty point away from a one-race ban.

Verstappen starts second on the grid for the race this evening, with Mercedes’ George Russell taking pole in qualifying.

When is the Canadian Grand Prix?

The 2025 Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has been ongoing since Friday, June 13.

And the race is taking place on Sunday, June 15.

Lights Out for the Grand Prix will be at 7pm this evening, which is 2pm local time in Montreal.

The current weather forecast is saying it will be 23C with an outside chance of a shower during the 70-lap grand prix.

Canadian Grand Prix: What has been said?

Hamilton has claimed six pole positions and seven F1 victories in Canada, including his first ever F1 win, but the last came in 2019.

David Croft has claimed that the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve could prove the perfect place to get the 40-year-old Brit back to his best.

The Sky Sports F1 commentator said: “I think the next race is quite critical for Lewis because Canada is a place he goes so well at. It’s a place he loves. He got his first pole and first win there.

“This is Lewis Hamilton’s track. If he has another down day, like you did in Barcelona, then there are issues.

“If anyone can do it and turn it around, the seven-time world champion that is Lewis Hamilton can definitely turn that around.”
