MOLLY Qerim and Stephen A. Smith were part of an uncomfortable sequence on Friday’s edition of First Take.
The awkward exchange concerned Smith‘s email messages that could’ve been shown on live television if it wasn’t for Molly Qerim.

The group was discussing Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, who’s expected to be traded this offseason.
While Smith was speaking about the topic, Qerim noticed that the 57-year-old’s laptop was open, and the ESPN cameras showed the screen on the camera.
Qerim told Stephen A. to close his laptop, but Stephen A. was not having any of it.
“Hold on,” she interrupted while pointing her pen at Smith’s phone and laptop.
“I can’t, Molly, it’s on vibrate,” Stephen A. said as he assumed Qerim told him his phone was making noise. “Just relax.”
Qerim replied, “No, it’s not that, just close it,” as Smith stared back at her with a confused look.
“Just trust me. Just close it all. Just put it all down.”
Stephen A. then strongly insisted, “That’s not gonna happen. It’s not gonna happen.”
However, Qerim wouldn’t back down and continued to try to help her unforgiving teammate.
“Stephen A., they’re zooming in on it. You can see your text messages, everything, I’m trying to help you out,” Qerim said.
After Smith once again declined, she said, “Stephen A., your computer it’s all on TV, just close it.
“I’m looking out for you, trying to be smooth. Jeez.”
Stephen A. finally appeared to realize that Qerim was talking about his laptop, showing his email messages.
He slightly moved the top of his laptop, but then moved it back to its original position.
Smith never thanked Qerim for trying to protect his private messages, but he did manage to call out ESPN, the network that signed him to a five-year, $100-million-plus contract in March.
“They should know better than having my damn email on camera,” he said.
First Take airs on ESPN each weekday from 10 am ET to noon.
